This flat presents a diverse selection of volcanic rock specimens featuring well-formed chabazite crystals from the island of Lanzarote. The individual pieces show typical white to colorless crystal formations embedded in dark basaltic matrix. The chabazite often occurs in small vesicles and cavities, frequently as rhombohedral crystals with a pearly to vitreous luster.
Chabazite is one of the most common zeolites in volcanic environments and forms under hydrothermal conditions in gas cavities of basalts and other basic volcanic rocks. Lanzarote, as part of the Canary Islands, is a classic locality for such volcanic zeolite parageneses.
