Aventurine; Tanzania; 3.66 kg; unique piece
Aventurine from Tanzania – 3.66 kg unique piece
This 3.66 kg unique piece shows Aventurine from Tanzania. The specimen displays a rich medium to dark green color with cloudy transitions and lighter quartz rich zones. The surface appears massive to slightly scaly with a fine grained texture and silky shimmering reflections caused by included mica minerals. A lighter band running across the piece structures the overall form and emphasizes the natural fabric of the material. The compact volume combined with the intense coloration gives the specimen a clear and powerful presence.
Geology & Origin
Aventurine is a variety of Quartz whose characteristic shimmer results from finely distributed inclusions of Fuchsite or other mica minerals. The material from Tanzania formed during metamorphic processes within quartz rich rock complexes, where chromium bearing mica became incorporated into the quartz structure. The green coloration is directly related to these chromium rich components and is characteristic of African occurrences of this quartz variety.
