Austinite crystals from Mapimí in Mexico – 1 unique flat
This collection contains numerous specimens with greenish Austinite crystals contrasting sharply against red-brown to yellowish oxidized matrix. The crystals typically appear as fine-grained to microcrystalline coatings within cavities or across exposed surfaces. Their color ranges from pale green to emerald green, standing out vividly against the iron-rich host rock.
Austinite is a rare calcium zinc arsenate that forms in the oxidation zones of zinc deposits. Mapimí in Mexico is one of the few localities worldwide where Austinite occurs in collectible quality. The mineral crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and often develops as crusts or delicate aggregates. This flat offers a representative overview of the color range and characteristic crystal habits of Austinite from this classic locality.
The flat shown in the pictures will be shipped with the corresponding box and, if applicable, folding boxes. These may be partially used, show signs of wear, and have multiple labels or markings.
