This rare specimen displays a dark, metallic matrix with reddish-brown to grayish-black tones, characteristic of Aurorite. The surface is finely structured with a compact to granular texture. It originates from the well-known Aurora Mine in Nevada, a historic locality for rare manganese oxides and associated ore minerals.
Geology & origin
Aurorite is a rare manganese oxide mineral typically found in hydrothermal veins of manganese-rich deposits. The Aurora Mine in Nevada was a major gold and silver mining site in the 19th century and is also known for producing rare secondary minerals like Aurorite, which occurs there in compact form associated with quartz, pyrolusite and other oxidic minerals.
