Arsentsumebite crystals from Moldava, Czech Republic– micromount as unique piece
Fine-grained, greenish-yellow coatings of Arsentsumebite irregularly cover the surface of this compact specimen. The tiny crystals are barely visible to the naked eye but reveal well-defined structures under magnification. Arsentsumebite is a very rare member of the oxidized arsenate group, forming only under specific conditions in small parageneses.
Geology & origin
The Arsentsumebite occurrence near Moldava in the Ore Mountains is mineralogically significant as one of the few known localities in Europe for this rare species. Arsentsumebite forms secondarily in oxidized zones of arsenic-rich polymetallic veins and is closely associated with the alteration of lead-bearing minerals. Its microcrystalline growth on pale matrix makes this piece particularly attractive for micromount collectors.
