This unique flat contains several Aragonite specimens from Santa Eulalia in Chihuahua, Mexico. The pieces show mainly white to cream-colored, partly slightly beige to grey-brown crystal aggregates on differently developed matrix. Depending on the specimen, the Aragonite crystals occur as dense coatings, botryoidal to fine-crystalline surface coverings, and more compact crystal groups, giving the flat a varied overall appearance. Shape, size, and crystal structure vary noticeably throughout the flat. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.
Geology & Origin
Santa Eulalia in the Mexican state of Chihuahua is one of the classic well-known mineral localities of Mexico. The deposits are characterized by hydrothermal mineralization, where numerous secondary and vein minerals were able to form in cavities and fractures. Aragonite formed there as a calcium carbonate under suitable chemical conditions and often develops as dense crystal carpets, fine-crystalline coatings, or more compact aggregates. The locality has long been appreciated for its mineralogical diversity and its attractive collector specimens.
