Aragonite crystals from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico – 1 unique flat

This unique flat contains several Aragonite specimens from Santa Eulalia in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The pieces mainly show white to cream-coloured, partly pale beige crystal aggregates on differently developed matrix. Depending on the specimen, the crystals occur as dense coatings, radiating to spray-like aggregates or more compact crystal groups, displaying several characteristic forms of Aragonite. Size, shape and crystal structure vary considerably within the flat. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.

Geology & Origin

Santa Eulalia near Chihuahua is one of the classic mining districts of Mexico and is known for a wide variety of ore and gangue minerals. The deposit is characterized by hydrothermal mineralization, with carbonate minerals such as Aragonite forming in cavities and fractures. These conditions produced dense crystal coatings, radiating aggregates and free-standing crystal groups. The locality has long been known for its mineralogical diversity and has produced numerous collector minerals from different stages of mineral formation. Other mineral specimens from Santa Eulalia are also regularly offered by Mikon.
