Andradite crystals from Persberg, Sweden – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen features numerous dark brown Andradite crystals with good development and luster. The crystals are individually well defined, closely clustered on the surface, and show partly trapezoidal faces with subtle metallic reflections. The even distribution of the crystals gives the piece a structured and visually appealing character.
Andradite belongs to the garnet group and typically forms idiomorphic crystals with vitreous luster. Colors range from yellow-green to dark brown, depending on the chemical composition. Specimens from Persberg are known among collectors for their excellent crystal quality and usually originate from historic iron ore deposits.
Geology & Origin:
Persberg in Sweden’s Värmland Province is a classic locality for iron-rich garnets such as Andradite. The area was historically a major site for iron ore mining and is known for contact metamorphic veins and skarns, which host a variety of mineral species. Andradite forms here in carbonate rocks influenced by boron-rich and hydrothermal fluids.
