Andersonite xls (SWUV-active!); Sodium Zippeite xls (SWUV-active!); D-Day Mine, Utah, USA; 1 half size flat
Andersonite xls, Sodium Zippeite xls; D-Day Mine, Utah, USA (SWUV-active!); 1 half size flat
This half size flat contains numerous specimens that show an intense yellow-green fluorescence under shortwave UV light. Visible are crystalline to powdery coatings and films of yellow Andersonite, occasionally accompanied by finely distributed Sodium Zippeite deposits. The material comes from the classic D-Day Mine in the U.S. state of Utah, a well-known locality for secondary uranium minerals with strong UV activity.
Geology & Origin
Andersonite is a fluorescent uranium mineral known for its bright yellow to greenish glow under shortwave UV light. At the D-Day Mine, it forms together with rare associated minerals like Sodium Zippeite in secondary oxidation zones of former uranium deposits. These pieces are typical representatives of such parageneses and are suitable for both UV mineral collections and geoscientific displays.
