Amber with Wood Structure from Sumatra, Indonesia – Large Cabinet Specimen, 1336 g, Unique Piece

This 1336 g unique piece consists of natural amber with distinctly preserved wood structure from Sumatra, Indonesia. The large specimen features a particularly pronounced, irregular surface with numerous elongated cavities, hollows, and clearly recognizable wood-like structures. Its coloration is dominated by various shades of brown, ochre, and beige, interspersed in places with darker to slightly lustrous areas. Pronounced grooves, fibrous structures, and natural cavities give the specimen a highly textured and original appearance.

Geology & Origin

Amber is fossilized tree resin that was preserved and transformed over geological periods under sediment cover. In this material from Sumatra, the amber occurs together with clearly recognizable structures of the original plant material, making the connection between resin and wood particularly apparent. The amber deposits of Sumatra are associated with Tertiary sedimentary formations and are known for brown to honey-colored material with varying degrees of preserved natural structures.
