This 1539 g unique piece consists of natural amber with clearly recognizable wood structure from Sumatra, Indonesia. The broad, compact specimen features a particularly varied surface with numerous fine, interwoven wood structures as well as distinctive rounded and knot-like features. Its coloration is dominated by warm shades of brown, ochre, and beige, while larger dark brown to almost black areas with distinctly layered and fibrous structures are visible along the sides. Slightly lustrous amber-colored areas can also be seen in places between the preserved wood structures.

Geology & Origin

Amber is fossilized tree resin that was preserved and transformed over geological periods under sediment cover. In this material from Sumatra, the amber occurs together with clearly recognizable structures of the original plant material, making the connection between resin and wood particularly apparent. The amber deposits of Sumatra are associated with Tertiary sedimentary formations and are known for brown to honey-colored material with varying degrees of preserved natural wood structures.
