Multicolored Agate from Java, Indonesia – 1 kg
This 1 kg position contains rough pieces of multicolored agate from Java, Indonesia. The specimens display a wide range of hues, including warm reds, yellows, and oranges, as well as gray and white layers. Some pieces feature distinct banding typical of agate, while others show zoned color transitions and translucent areas. An example with a cut and polished surface demonstrates how the vivid colors and structures become especially pronounced during processing.
Geology & Origin
Agate is a variety of chalcedony distinguished by rhythmic banding and diverse color patterns. It typically forms in cavities of volcanic rocks, where silica-rich solutions crystallize in multiple phases. The Indonesian deposits on Java are well known for producing richly colored agates, whose characteristic tones are influenced by iron and other mineral inclusions. The material is highly suitable for lapidary work, including cabochons, tumbled stones, jewelry, or decorative collection pieces.
