Aegirine, Zircon xls; Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Malawi; 1 unique flat
Aegirine and Zircon crystals from Mt. Malosa, Malawi – 1 unique flat.
This collection unit features characteristic mineral combinations from the well-known Mt. Malosa locality in Malawi. The specimens display dark green to black needle-like to prismatic aegirine crystals, often strikingly contrasted on light feldspar or albite matrix. Tabular to blocky zircon crystals accompany many of the pieces, along with additional accessory minerals typical of this alkaline-rich geological setting.
Mount Malosa, located in the Zomba District, is one of the most important localities for rare alkaline rock minerals in southern Africa. Its pegmatites and nepheline syenites host a wide range of unusual mineral formations, as represented by the specimens in this flat. A perfect addition for collectors focused on systematic rare minerals and aesthetic alkaline parageneses.
