Aegirine crystals from Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Malawi – miniature specimen as unique piece
This unique specimen shows a cluster of long prismatic, black, lustrous aegirine crystals. The crystals are well formed, partly transparent along the edges, and display a distinct vitreous luster. Several crystals intersect at different angles, creating an aesthetic crystalline structure. The reflective faces and sharp edges emphasize the striking character of this piece.
The specimen comes from Mt. Malosa in the Zomba District, Malawi, a world-famous locality for aegirine and other rare pegmatite minerals. Aegirine belongs to the pyroxene group and crystallizes in the monoclinic system. It typically forms long, slender crystals ranging from dark green to black, often in association with quartz, feldspars, and other accessory minerals. Due to its aesthetics and the rarity of such well-developed crystal forms, aegirine is a prized collector’s mineral.
