Adamite crystals from Laurion, Greece – 1 unique flat
This unique flat contains numerous mineral specimens with Adamite crystals from Laurion in Greece. The specimens predominantly show strong orange-brown to rusty-brown matrix with light grey, whitish to greenish-grey mineral areas and differently developed crystal coatings and drusy cavities. On several specimens, the Adamite crystals are clearly developed in open cavities and on the matrix, with the individual pieces varying in size, shape and colour appearance. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.
Geology & Origin
Laurion in Attica, Greece, is one of the classic European localities for secondary minerals. The lead-zinc ore deposits of the district were altered over long periods by weathering and oxidation, producing numerous secondary mineral species in the near-surface zones. Adamite is a zinc arsenate that can form under such oxidizing conditions and occurs at Laurion together with other minerals of the oxidation zone. The specimens in this flat show different forms of this characteristic mineralization from the historic mining district.
