Geology & Origin:
Sondershausen in Thuringia is one of the oldest potash mining sites in the world. The local deposits formed through the evaporation of marine sediments during the Zechstein period about 250 million years ago. The region was a major source of potassium and magnesium salts used in agriculture and industry.
