Fossilized (petrified) wood from Garut, Java, Indonesia – 4.64 kg unique piece

This fossilized wood specimen from Garut features a large polished surface with intense honey-yellow to amber-colored zones. The translucent areas are framed by light green to cream-colored margins, creating a natural pattern reminiscent of agate.

Cloud-like internal structures and organic-looking inclusions in the center beautifully reflect the former wood texture. The contrast between the glossy silicified sections and the more natural outer matrix gives the specimen a vivid and high-quality appearance.

Geology & Origin

Fossilized wood forms when organic plant material is permeated and preserved by mineral-rich solutions over very long geological timescales. During this process, the original wood substance is gradually replaced by quartz and related silicates, while the internal structure of the wood remains intact. The Garut region on Java is well known for producing large-format, vividly colored fossilized wood characterized by stable preservation, clear structures, and expressive natural color zoning.
