This impressive fossilized wood specimen from Garut features a large polished surface with intense honey-yellow to warm brown zones. The translucent areas are framed by light cream-colored margins and contrast beautifully with the natural rough outer matrix.

The former wood structures are clearly visible in the central area, reflected in organic flowing lines and darker inclusions. The polish enhances the depth of silicification and creates an almost glass-like surface, while the backside preserves the original sedimentary character. This creates a striking balance between natural form and refined presentation.

Geology & Origin

Fossilized wood forms when organic plant material is permeated and preserved by mineral-rich solutions over very long geological timescales. During this process, the original wood substance is gradually replaced by quartz and related silicates, while the internal structure of the wood remains intact. The Garut region on Java is well known for producing large-format, vividly colored fossilized wood characterized by stable preservation, clear structures, and expressive natural color zoning.
