Fossilized (petrified) wood; Garut, Java, Indonesia; 36.45 kg; unique piece
Fossilized (petrified) wood from Garut, Java, Indonesia – 36.45 kg unique piece
This impressive fossilized wood specimen from Garut displays a massive, column-like form with a clearly preserved trunk structure. The dark, almost black-brown base color is intersected by fine longitudinal lines that reflect the former fiber orientation of the tree. Isolated greenish-turquoise mineral zones create subtle accents and add visual depth to the piece.
The surface is predominantly smooth to silky matte with partially polished areas that enhance the silicified internal structure. Weighing 36.45 kg, this specimen has exceptional presence and is ideally suited as a representative collector’s piece or as a striking standalone display object.
Geology & Origin
Fossilized wood forms when organic plant material is permeated and preserved by mineral-rich solutions over very long geological timescales. During this process, the original wood substance is gradually replaced by quartz and related silicates, while the internal structure of the wood remains intact. The Garut region on Java is well known for producing large-format, vividly colored fossilized wood characterized by stable preservation, clear structures, and expressive natural color zoning.
