Althausite from Modum, Norway– small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This specimen shows dark violet to blackish-brown areas with a dull luster, embedded in a lighter matrix. The fine-grained texture and contrasting colors indicate the presence of Althausite, distributed irregularly throughout the rock.
Geology & Origin
Modum in Norway is known for its phosphate- and magnesium-rich vein rocks formed under metamorphic conditions. Althausite is commonly found here alongside minerals such as serpentinite, magnetite, or olivine, typically forming in contact metamorphic zones of ultrabasic rocks. This site is regarded as a classic locality for this rare phosphate mineral.
