Zircon, Monazite, Aegirine xls; partly UV-active!; Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Malawi; 1 unique flat
Zircon crystals, Monazite crystals and Aegirine crystals, partly UV-active – Mt. Malosa, Malawi – 1 unique flat.
This selection features a rare combination of zircon, monazite, and aegirine crystals on light to dark matrix from Mount Malosa, Malawi. Notable are the striking parageneses with dark needle-like aegirine, reddish-brown tabular monazite, and well-formed zircon crystals. Some specimens show strong UV fluorescence in yellow to orange hues, a characteristic feature of monazite from this locality.
All specimens in this flat were self-collected during our 2022 mineral expedition to Malawi. Mount Malosa is renowned for its pegmatites and alkaline rocks, which regularly yield mineralogically exceptional combinations. This unique flat is particularly suited for collectors specializing in fluorescent rare minerals and systematic parageneses.
