This collection features selected specimens with well-formed crystals of zircon, monazite and aegirine in characteristic paragenesis. Many pieces display lustrous black to brown zircon crystals, translucent reddish to yellowish monazite individuals, and slender to prismatic aegirine crystals on contrasting matrix. Some specimens also include additional associated minerals such as albite or quartz, adding to the diversity of the flat.
Mount Malosa in the Zomba District of Malawi is renowned worldwide for its exceptional pegmatite and syenite occurrences, which have produced a wide variety of rare minerals.
