Larimar (Pectolite) from the Dominican Republic. 1 kg
An attractive rough stone assortment from the Caribbean: This 1 kg set contains pieces of Larimar (Pectolite) in basic quality, mostly featuring light blue to blue-green color zones within typical matrix rock. The stones display matte, partially polishable textures with characteristic veining – a great material for beginners in lapidary work, for small-scale jewelry production, or as collectible specimens with a traceable origin.
Geology & Origin
Larimar is found exclusively in the Dominican Republic and represents a rare variety of the mineral Pectolite. The stones offered here come from the well-known Filipinas Mine in the country’s southern region. Larimar forms hydrothermally in basaltic rocks when calcium- and sodium-rich fluids crystallize under specific thermal conditions. The sought-after blue tones are caused by copper inclusions. Since its discovery in the 1970s, Larimar has become internationally prized as both a gemstone and collector’s mineral – especially due to its unique color and limited availability.
