This 10 kg unit contains raw pieces of blood jasper (also known as Bergerite). The material originates from the Indonesian island of Java and features a striking color distribution: deep red jasper runs through the dark host rock in veins and net-like structures, creating impressive contrasts that make each piece stand out. One example photo shows a polished specimen, demonstrating how intense the colors can appear after processing.
Geology & Origin
Blood jasper is a variety of jasper, a microcrystalline form of quartz (chalcedony), with its characteristic red color caused by fine iron oxide inclusions and other mineral admixtures. In Java, Indonesia, this variety occurs in volcanic rock sequences. It forms red, vein-like networks in dark host material, which become particularly striking once cut and polished. The material has long been valued as decorative rough stone and is widely used in the jewelry and lapidary trade.
