Jade with green spotting from Java, Indonesia. 100 kg
This 100 kg lot consists of raw jade pieces featuring a characteristic white base with scattered green spots and streaks. Sourced from the Indonesian island of Java, the material comes in hand-sized chunks of varying shape and texture, ideal for lapidary work, cutting, polishing, or decorative purposes. One image shows an example of how the material can be processed: two polished cabochons in silver settings made from comparable jade.
Geology & Origin
The jade from Java is a compact, fine-grained silicate rock often classified as a tremolite- or actinolite-rich variety. It forms in metamorphic contact zones of volcanic origin, especially in association with serpentinite and chlorite schists. The deposits on Java have long supplied attractive raw material to the gem and lapidary industry. Especially prized is the jade-like appearance with vivid green patterning on a light matrix, which becomes more pronounced when polished and is suitable for high-quality ornamental stones.
