Jade (Nephrite) from Alaska, USA; 1 kg
High-quality rough material from the U.S. state of Alaska: This 1 kg selection typically consists of larger, solid pieces of dark green to gray-green nephrite jade. The dense, fine-grained texture and slightly silky appearance are characteristic of this material, making it ideal for lapidary work, carving, or as attractive raw specimens for collectors. The varying shades of green reflect the natural diversity of North American nephrite.
Geology & Origin
This jade comes from the Kobuk River region in northwestern Alaska, one of the most significant historic jade deposits in the United States. The nephrite formed through metamorphic processes in ultramafic rocks, where actinolite and tremolite were transformed under high pressure into compact jade masses. Indigenous peoples have valued this material for centuries, and it is still collected by hand today.
