Hopeite, Tarbuttite xls; Zambia; 1 flat; unique
Hopeite and Tarbuttite crystals from Zambia – 1 unique flat
This flat presents three impressive matrix specimens with densely intergrown crystals of Hopeite and Tarbuttite. The Hopeite appears as vibrant orange to reddish granular zones, while the Tarbuttite forms lighter, crystalline aggregates with fine surface sparkle. Especially striking are the size and weight of the pieces, with well-developed crystal layers across the matrix. These phosphates are rare in such visual contrast and preservation.
These pieces come from the famous Kabwe Mine (formerly Broken Hill) in Zambia, a classic locality known worldwide for its secondary zinc phosphates. Hopeite is a crystalline zinc phosphate, while tanbellite is a rare secondary phosphate mineral from the oxidation zone. Specimens of this size and quality are increasingly hard to find. The flat shown is exactly the collection on offer.
