Hopeite, Tarbuttite xls; Zambia; 1 flat; unique
Hopeite and Tarbuttite crystals from Zambia – 1 unique flat
This flat contains two contrasting specimens with exceptionally well-formed crystals of the rare secondary zinc minerals hopeite and tarbuttite. The left specimen features clear to white hopeite crystals on dark matrix with striking yellow accents, while the right piece displays densely intergrown reddish-brown crystal aggregates of tarbuttite. The vivid color contrast and sharp crystal formations make these outstanding collector’s specimens.
These pieces come from the famous Kabwe Mine (formerly Broken Hill) in Zambia, a classic locality known worldwide for its secondary zinc phosphates. Hopeite is a crystalline zinc phosphate, while tanbellite is a rare secondary phosphate mineral from the oxidation zone. Specimens of this size and quality are increasingly hard to find. The flat shown is exactly the collection on offer.
