Fossilized (petrified) wood; sphere; polished; Sumatra, Indonesia; 10 pieces
Polished fossilized (petrified) wood spheres from Sumatra in Indonesia – 10 pieces
This lot includes 10 carefully polished spheres made of fossilized wood from the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Each sphere displays a unique color pattern with shades of brown, black, cream, and occasional reddish tones, created by the varying mineralization processes during fossilization. The polishing highlights the natural grain and texture, making these spheres both decorative and geologically significant collector’s items.
Geology & Origin
The fossilized wood of Sumatra formed through the silicification of ancient forests that were buried millions of years ago under volcanic ash and sediments. During this process, silica minerals such as quartz replaced the organic matter, preserving the characteristic wood structure in remarkable detail. Such specimens are typical of Indonesia, whose volcanic geology provides an important source of high-quality petrified wood.
