Fossilized (petrified) agate wood; slice; one side polished; with metal stand in gold; Galaxy; Sumatra, Indonesia; 1 piece
One-side polished fossilized agate wood slice with gold stand from Sumatra, Indonesia – 1 piece, Galaxy
This slice of fossilized agate wood comes from Sumatra, Indonesia, and has been carefully polished on one side to highlight the exceptional grain and color diversity of the material. The surface shows a contrasting pattern with golden-brown, red, and violet-gray tones that resemble a galaxy. The included gold-colored stand enhances the aesthetic effect and makes this piece both a decorative collector’s item and an elegant eye-catcher.
Geology & origin
Fossilized wood is formed through the process of permineralization, where the original plant material is replaced by minerals while the cellular structures are often preserved in detail. On Sumatra, these fossil remains are found in Tertiary volcanic deposits, where silica-rich solutions replaced the wood with quartz and chalcedony. The characteristic coloration with shades of brown, red, beige, or gray is caused by inclusions of iron, manganese, and other minerals, giving each slice its unique appearance.
