Fossil coral, green from Java, Indonesia. 100 kg
This 100 kg lot consists of pieces of fossil coral with distinctive net-like structures preserved in the stone. The material shows a greenish coloration with partly translucent areas and comes in varied shapes and sizes. The fine texture with characteristic coral patterns makes it an attractive choice for collectors as well as for lapidary use.
Geology & Origin
The fossil coral comes from the Indonesian island of Java, a region rich in volcanic and sedimentary deposits. During fossilization, the original coral structures were gradually replaced by minerals over geological time, preserving their intricate patterns. The greenish appearance is the result of mineral inclusions formed during the petrification process. Fossil corals from Indonesia are well known for their decorative patterns and are valued both as collector’s specimens and as raw material for jewelry and lapidary work.
