Agates; polished; Felsenschlag, Gehlberg, Thuringia, Germany; 1 lot with 6 pieces; unique
Polished agates from the Felsenschlag locality near Gehlberg in Thuringia, Germany – 1 unique lot of 6 pieces
This lot consists of six cut and polished agate specimens from the so-called Felsenschlag locality near Gehlberg in the Thuringian Forest. The pieces exhibit concentric banding in vivid shades of red, brown, and white, with some showing subtle transitions into grey or beige. Several cross-sections display remarkably fine patterns, attesting to the high quality of the material.
The Felsenschlag is a locally known collecting site near Gehlberg, where agates formed in cavities within volcanic host rock through hydrothermal processes. The characteristic ring-zoned structures, often with chalcedony or quartz cores, reveal their full aesthetic beauty when sliced and polished. This lot is a striking showcase of the color and structural diversity found in these rarely offered Thuringian agates.
