Prehnite from Java, Indonesia. 10 kg
This 10 kg position contains raw pieces of light green to whitish Prehnite from the Indonesian island of Java. The material shows fine banded structures and partly translucent areas, which become especially visible when cut and polished. One of the photos displays a cut sample, illustrating the decorative patterns that can be achieved. The pieces are handy in size and well suited for cutting, polishing, or for collectors.
Geology & Origin
Prehnite is a calcium-aluminium silicate that typically forms in hydrothermally altered basalts. It occurs in massive to botryoidal aggregates and often displays a delicate green coloration. The deposits on Java are associated with the island’s volcanic activity and have long provided decorative lapidary material. Prehnite is valued as a popular gemstone and collector’s material, especially for its subtle structures and gentle colour variations when processed.
