This large specimen is covered by a dense layer of honey-colored to whitish Calcite crystals, some of which show a glassy luster. Small, orange-yellow Wulfenite crystals are embedded within the Calcite and can be seen in several areas. The undulating crystal surfaces create a lively texture and reflect light in fascinating ways.
Geology & Origin:
The Defiance Mine in Arizona is one of the classic lead-zinc deposits of the American Southwest. Calcite commonly forms as a late-stage vein mineral here, while Wulfenite typically occurs in the oxidized zones and is known for its well-formed crystals. A specimen of this size combining both minerals in aesthetic form is relatively uncommon.
