Allanite-(Y) crystal from Trimouns, Lucenac, France– small cabinet specimen as unique piece
A single, well-formed Allanite-(Y) crystal is visible in a small cavity within the light grey matrix. The prismatic crystal displays a dark, slightly lustrous surface that stands out clearly against the surrounding rock. Small calcite crystals add a subtle contrast to the overall appearance.
Geology & Origin
Allanit-(Y) is part of the epidote group and contains yttrium as the dominant rare earth element. The Trimouns deposit in the French Pyrenees is primarily known for white talc minerals, but it occasionally yields fine Allanit crystals in pegmatitic veins within dolomite.
