This striking small cabinet specimen displays abundant embedded Franckeite crystals within a massive ore matrix from the famous Itos Mine near Oruro, Bolivia. Geology & Origin
The Itos Mine in the Oruro district of Bolivia is a classic locality for tin, lead and numerous complex sulfosalt minerals. Franckeite is a rare lead tin antimony sulfosalt that forms in hydrothermal ore veins together with a variety of other metallic minerals. The deposits of this region are internationally known for their remarkable sulfosalt diversity and have produced important collector specimens and scientifically significant mineral discoveries for many decades.
